CBT Thought Diary is a journaling app that uses effective tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Positive Psychology to help improve your mood. It provides a space to reflect on your thoughts, record your mood, reflect on your emotions, practice gratitude, and analyze your thoughts with proven & effective techniques. Download and install the Clarity - CBT Thought Diary app on your Windows 10,8,7 or Mac in 4 simple steps below:


  1. Download an Android emulator for PC and Mac:
    Get either Bluestacks or the Nox App >> . We recommend Bluestacks because you can easily find solutions online if you run into problems while using it. Download Bluestacks Pc or Mac software Here >> .

  2. Install the emulator on your PC or Mac:
    On your computer, goto the Downloads folder » click to install Bluestacks.exe or Nox.exe » Accept the License Agreements » Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

  3. Using Clarity on PC [Windows 7/ 8/8.1/ 10/ 11]:
    • Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "Clarity"

To get Clarity on Windows 11, check if there's a native Clarity Windows app here » ». If none, follow the steps below:


  1. Download the Amazon-Appstore » (U.S only)
    • Click on "Get" to begin installation. It also automatically installs Windows Subsystem for Android.
    • After installation, Goto Windows Start Menu or Apps list » Open the Amazon Appstore » Login (with Amazon account)

  2. For non-U.S users, Download the OpenPC software »
    • Upon installation, open OpenPC app » goto Playstore on PC » click Configure_Download. This will auto-download Google Play Store on your Windows 11.

  3. Installing Clarity:
    • Login to your computer's PlayStore or Amazon AppStore.
    • Search for "Clarity" » Click "Install" to install Clarity - CBT Thought Diary
    • Clarity - CBT Thought Diary will now be available on your windows start-menu.

    I used to recommend this app to my therapy clients, and mostly appreciate the simplicity of it, but wish that the updated version gives an additional question at the end about re-rating the emotional distress. One of the best parts of thought records is noticing the decrease in emotional distress by taking the before and after rating and seeing how they compare.

    This app has helped me so much over the past few years! It guides you easily (and almost without realizing it) the thought process to calm down, take stock of what’s happening, and re-construct your thoughts. I am in 100% agreement that this updated version needs to put back the end of quiz stress rating tool to see how much it has helped.

    I use this app all the time with phone savvy clients, and I don’t know anyone whose emotional intensity doesn’t change after making it through a whole entry. I wish the level of distress before and after was still a selection option so people can see a quantifiable change. I also wish justification/rationalization was a thinking error. My clients struggle with coming up with challenge statements on their own, I wish they had a few generic options to start from.

    This app is such a wonderful guide as I practice using CBT methods to manage my anxiety. I am so pleased with the examples provided and the uncomplicated form for journaling. As I work to form positive responses to my anxiety, this app is an amazing tool for helping me catalogue, identify, and counteract my negative thoughts. Love this!!!!! So grateful that it’s free!
