  • GOF 3

    By RAHErin (Pcmac user)

The game is not as fun as GOF 2 with little else to do then shoot down pirates. The story line is not as detailed or interesting either. That being said, GOF 2 was a 5 star game that I still play, so although this iteration of GOF does not live up to my favorite I still give it 4 stars. Piloting and fighting in GOF 3 is less realistic then GOF 2, all of the pirate and fellow wing mates ships are much faster then yours and way more maneuverable which results in laughable and unsatisfying kills more often then not. You run upon the enemy, they whip around, pummel shots into you leaving you standing still then miraculously slow down to allow you to catch up and kill them! To be fare, GOF 2 has some of this but not nearly as much. Artwork is incredible in GOF 3 as per normal for this game with stunning vistas. It is just less; less story, less adventure, less options for something other then fighting, and so less immersive then GOF 2. But I still play...
  • A sequel to GOF1, not GOF2

    By GOF2 GOAT (Pcmac user)

If you have been waiting for an open world RPG space sim that proceeds GOF2 just as I have then you will no doubt be disappointed by this game, as most of the open world freedom and exploration that made the previous game so special has been lost. Nevertheless I gave this a try and I have to say it’s a genuinely good arcade space shooter game. GOF3 seems more like a sequel to the original game rather than the second, as the mission types and overall game structure is much more similar to the original, as the first game revolved more around select missions rather than open world exploration. However the flight mechanics and overall combat experience and excitement greatly eclipses anything that the previous games had to offer, with much faster and engaging combat, which is this games redeeming factor in my mind. It’s been nearly 10 years and GOF2 is still my favorite game on the App Store and this sequel doesn’t even come close to matching it. However, objectively this is still a great game, it just doesn’t stack up to its predecessor. If a true open world RPG sequel of GOF2 with the flight and combat mechanics of this game would be made by Fishlabs then that would truly be a worthy successor.
  • A pick pocket game

    By onykage (Pcmac user)

Hands down the game engine, graphics stone solid and amazing. Story line is so so, in my opinion not nearly as good as GOF2. I’ve been playing the GOF series since it’s release. Great game play. Here is the problem with 3 tho. Money. 10 dollars for dlc is outrageous. Especially when you could buy the entire game, all add ons, everything for 10 dollars with GOF2 and GOF2 HD for an additional 10. The originals never pestered you to buy anything, this version how ever is like one of the millions of pay to play games on the market. Sure you can bring your tail off and buy a ship and may get lucky and win the best weapon in the game, but then you never have to work to get it again. Zero replay ability in this aspect. And when the heck are the devs going to add controller support and go live action pvp? And where did the space trading go? Been meaning to review this game for a few years, just thought I would wait and see if they devs would remove some of the ad bs and so on, instead it got worse. This game is just not worth it in my opinion. I hope they make something new in the future, bring Keith back, and go back to the previous game style and storyline. Just so much better over all.
  • Read this before you buy the game

I played the app on Fire 2 in its entirety even going so far as to take the time to get the best ships and weapons after beating the games final boss. Needless to say I enjoyed every minute of the game wether I was roaming through the vast emptiness of space or fighting any of the multiple factions in the game. When GOF3 came out I was excited I was ready for a better Gof2 better graphics, more content, the works, but what I got was a mission based pay to win game that a two year old could play. There is no challenge in this game, no need for strategic use of cargo space, knowledge of your faction status, or any knowledge at all. To top it all off the graphics aren’t that much better and the controls feel worse. Fish labs had the chance to make another great game. They could have taken a year or two and no one would have asked any questions because Gof2 was so good. What they did however was make a cheap pay to win knockoff version of a better game. So if you want a game with a stifling structure and a pay to win system get this game and waste your money on the 14$ expansion packs, but if you want to enjoy roaming the galaxies, acquiring ships, and doing everything this game is advertised as doing and more then get GOF2 and have fun.
